Toshiba 2812db Height display problem |
Message |
| I have a Tosh TV thats worked well for 10 years.
Recently its started to display only about two inches high but full width picture for 10 mins. Once warmed up its OK, but its a real pain if I want to watch a footy match.
I understand this is most likely a Capacitor, can anyone point me to which one, or tell me where I can get circuit drawings? I am a tech.
thanks in antcipation. |

| Not sure exactly which cap it will be, but check aorund the area of the vertical output transistors/ic. I have found low value, high voltage caps to be the usual culprit. Example 1uF at 160V. Also, did you try some freeze spray after the set warms up? Might tell you quickly which cap. Again, look in the vertical section of the set. Good luck! |

| Joe,
Thanks, I'll try with a Can of freezer and see if I can create the problem back and forth.
Any idea where I can get hold of details for the SERVICE MODE? I found how to get into it, but no info on what the settings do.

RE: Toshiba 2812DB Height |
Message |
| David,
tried replacing C301, no good although it is a bit better.
Looked but dont have 305, 308 or 342.
There not on the board or the drawing (im using 2512db layout)
so maybe I should just change as many Electroytic cans that I can find in the vicinty?
C451 at 33mf 160v looks a culprit.
Any other suggestions or info ref what caps? This TV was bought in UK.
Thanks

| More info,
Main Bd # is PB1572. Tv is 2812DB.
C316 2200mfd 160vac appears to be in the wrong way round!
Ive traced the drawing and also the actual board components (with an Avo) and silk screen and they all confirm that the cap is back to front, however it worked like that for ten years! so maybe all the docs and screening are wrong.
Ive ordered a dozen of so Electrolytic caps and will insert them when they arrive in a few days.

Hi Steve
Im pretty sure the caps that cause the frame problem are 2.2uf x 50v they are usually red in colour & if you look at the base of cap you will see damp ellotrolyte patch on pcb, i think there are 2 caps of that value. |

RE: Toshiba 2812bd |

| Chris,
Thanks, I switched out C301 and C317 both 50v 2.2uf. Still no joy.
Ive now replaced the following,
C451, 33uf 160v,
C313 & C322 220uf 35v
C316 3300uf 25v
C314 1000uf 35v
C317 & C301 2.2uf 50v
Checking IC303 (AN5521) the level on pin 3 is +27 thru +54v, but it should be +1v thru +54v so either a diode is breaking down or the chip is bad. I,m putting in a (D305) BYD33j 1.3a 600v, and replacing the Chip when I can get one in. The 47ohm resistor (R306) across the diode is OK.
Since changing the caps, the warm up problem has gone in as much as the vert display starts at about 4 inches high, and never gets any bigger. Before it would start at 1 inch and grow over time to a full screen before failing totally.
I,m sure I,m in the right area, but with voltage clipping , if its not the Chip, or diode I'll have to start again.

RE: Tosh2812dbt vertical. |

| Well, I changed the Diode and replaced the AN5521 chip. The wave form out of pin 3 is still wrong. Despite changing all the caps in the vicinity.
Does anyone know if there is a factory default for the mode settings on this set?
If so, how do I do that?
Ive tried messing with the mode adj for Height and width but they dont make enough chnages. I have a R351 listed as height adjustment on my manual, but cant find it, and its not listed in the spare parts either. Sets a Toshiba 2812db t-93181090.
