JVC VCR ..front buttons and remote don't do anything |

Model#HR-VP783U.....The unit comes on when I plug it in (that is the auto light flashes like it usually does) but none of the buttons do anything including the power button(remote doesn't turn it on either)..I tried hitting the timer button and holding the power button in for 10 seconds(as per manual) but no go..Help!!
