Just had the same problem with my girlfriend's TV video combi - and cured it!!! Turn off the TV and unplug it then very carefully turn it upside down and listen for anything rattling about. If you hear anything carefully unscrew the back cover (set MUST be uplugged and not just switched off) and very carefully remove anything in there that shouldnt be. Replace cover (making sure that aerial socket and scart socket are correctly aligned with the cover) and switch on.
It seems that these TV video combis have a safety feature which detects foreign bodies stuck in there by kids and automatically disables the video to prevent damage.
