Mitsubishi VS-5052 projection TV

Message

When I push the power switch, I hear the normal relays click but I don't get the power on LED next to the switch and no picture, no sound. Is it worth fixing this old TV or should I update to HDTV?

I have a VS-6041 and it does the same. Every time I open it and take the board out checking for any loose soldering or faulty component, it starts working again for a few days. I read that the cold soldering they use tends to fail. Try with a soldering iron in all and each contact. Check also for black tar on the board. The capacitors that Mitsubishi Corporation uses are "dog poop", they are the same as in the Mitsubishi car computers (CMU). They tend to explode with time for no reason and rust boards. My TV is not fixed yet because every time I start looking for the fault, the deam thing starts working again! (maybe it likes to be touch). If you find something else, please post.

I have a VS-5051 that is doing the same thing.  I haven't seen anyone respond to the question, "Is it worth fixing, or should we just get a new TV?"  Any comments?

Has anyone else with a VS-5052 had problems with the brightness flickering?  It flickers with a random horizontal striping, not the entire picture.  It does this on all inputs and on-screen functions.

P.S.  Jim, sorry I can't help with your no picture problem.

I have a Mitsubishi VS 5051 when it is turned on it does ok for a couple of minutes then the picture goes down to the cdenter and does not come back on until it cools down for a couple of hours, I still have the sound. Is this problem typical and what does it sound like. Could I buy a part to fix this myself or does it need to be trashed?

for all problems listed for these sets. Look for leaky capacitors, you will find wet spots on circuit boards. Also, look at leads of capacitors you will find corrosion. I have been working on Mitsubishi sets for many years. I can tell you that 95% of all failures are from leaky capacitors. Jim Daly Tri*M Electronics/Decatur,Tn.
